4/10/11—Mom’s First Catch
She did it folks. My mom finally caught her first fish on a fly rod. To say she was excited would be an understatement. However, she did stay composed while reeling it in. She had hooked into a couple before and as soon as she realized she had a fish on, she would absolutely panic and scream “I got a fish! I got one! Sierra, I caught a fish!” and then the fish would come off. She kept at it though. And after fishing the same hole for 20 minutes, her guide (my dad), decided he would leave her to it and he went upstream to fish on his own. Not even 5 minutes later, I hear a very calm “Guys…hey guys” and sure enough Laurie had a fish on. My dad and I started trekking through the water to try to get to her—him to net the fish and me to take photos. As you can see by the photos, she was pretty stoked.
Probably 30 seconds after we released her fish, my dad threw his line into that same hole and caught a beautiful brown trout. I must be psychic or something because before we left the house that day I said, “We gotta catch a brown. I want to take pictures of a brown.”
As for me, I missed 3 very big fish. Two of which broke me off, so yeah they were good fish. Still had a great day with my parents though. I’m so glad I got to capture my mom’s first catch, and I can’t wait to go out again soon.
