5/22/20—Rain at Chapman’s Dam
Wow, this was such a good day. I have been doing this long enough to know as soon as I hit the shutter whether a photo is going to work or not. On this day, everything worked. That is the best feeling you can get as a photographer. When everything is clicking, the location is perfect, the lighting is beautiful, and the moments are just waiting to be captured. It started off as a solo mission in the pouring down rain. I went from spot to spot looking for something to inspire me. I realized that because of the rain, I was going to need some help in order to make the images possible that I was initially going to try. I thought, “Eh, maybe I should just come back another day” and just as was about to leave, I looked out into the mountains and saw the fog starting to lift. Light was starting to shine through the clouds for the first time all day. I parked my car, got my umbrella out, and got absolutely lost in creating. Since everything was working, I decided I was going to try the shots that I had originally gone out to shoot, so I called the only people that are always willing to put me and my passion first; my parents. They got there as soon as they could and just as they pulled up, the rain had subsided, the water had calmed, and the lighting was even better than before. To me, these photos feel nostalgic, like old photographs that you accidentally stumble across one day that take you back like a time machine. I am really proud of this body of work, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. Thank you for reading.
