7/18/21—ADK Day 1
The family and I took a little trip to the Adirondack Mountains to do some hiking and such. Here are some scenes that I photographed on the drive there.
We stayed the night in a hotel that was right on a lake. In the morning before we hit the road again, we took a little walk. Naturally, I took my camera and managed to snag a few photos.
As we drove, we passed a little restaurant set on a lake in the middle of the woods. In the parking lot was a beaut of a 70s Volkswagen camper van. If you know me on a personal level, you would know that if I were a car…that’s what I would be. I made my dad turn around and go back so I could get some pictures of it. As I was taking photos of it, a dog popped its head up from the back. I thought, “Wow, these people are living the dream”. I converted the photos to black and white—a rarity for me—due to the lack of contrast. It was a cloudy day and the van was the same shade of green as the trees and the grass. I just couldn’t find an edit that fit, so I took a lesson I learned from the man Alex Strohl in that if the color isn’t adding anything to the photo, make it black and white.
After that, we got hit with some rain and fog as we made it to the mountains. Didn’t photograph that much, just wanted to soak that in with my eyes rather than trying to make some photos.
